In this article, Chisom Ezeh, a Wealth Manager for the ComX app at AFEX shares her career journey and the importance of imbibing the growth mindset as a newbie at AFEX.

If there is one thing I’ve learned so far in my journey at AFEX, it’s this — be curious. Working in a commodities space — a relatively new concept to most Nigerians and the first private commodities firm in Nigeria, you quickly realize there is a lot you don’t know or understand. This is a fast-paced and high-pressure landscape with exciting opportunities to learn.

Once you start to dig into the why — why do we need commodities? Why do we need a product fit for the market? Why does AFEX operate at certain levels? When you stay curious, you find yourself constantly figuring out how things work and how they can be better. Career growth is spurred by constant learning.

The good thing about working in a place like AFEX is, it is a learning experience with friendly people who are ready to teach you things you don’t know and that solidifies the knowledge for you. When I first joined AFEX, there was a knowledge gap and I had tons of questions to understand ways I can significantly contribute to the growth of the company. Thanks to my colleagues, Funto and Jacqueline, they were supportive and took ample time to help me understand the company’s operations and what ComX needs.

What makes me proud to work here is the team spirit that embodies a diverse, innovative, and accommodating group of people. They make the journey and workflow seamless. This motivates me to do more and keep growing and adapting in an environment that values your daily input.
